Why You Might Need Orthodontic Treatment

Orthodontic procedures can fix many tooth and jaw issues. As an adult, you might benefit from treatment if you have any of these orthodontic issues:

Overcrowding

Overcrowding happens when the jaw lacks room for all adult teeth. It causes teeth to become misplaced, crooked or overlapped. Some people feel self-conscious about how it looks. Overcrowding can also make it hard to maintain good oral hygiene. If you have overcrowding, braces or clear aligners can help.

Overbite

An overbite is a common orthodontic issue. When you close your mouth, the upper teeth overlap the lower front ones. This issue may cause damage to the lower teeth. It can cause significant damage to the lower teeth. In extreme cases, it may require dental work. You can fix adult overbites with braces, clear aligners or surgery.

Underbite

Underbites happen when the lower teeth extend notably beyond the upper front teeth. Correcting an underbite may improve comfort when eating and speaking. It may also relieve jaw pain and reduce tooth wear. Repositioning the teeth and jaws may be necessary. Braces and clear aligners can fix an adult underbite, in extreme cases surgery would be required.

Jaw Pain/Headaches

Adults with headaches and jaw pain might benefit from orthodontics. Grinding and clenching in addition with misaligned teeth may cause jaw pain. Orthodontic treatment with braces or aligners can help rectify any misalignment reducing the wear on teeth. Dr. Thai may recommend a night guard made by your dentist at the end of treatment. Braces or aligners can help rectify any misalignment brought on by wisdom teeth.

Gum Disease

Gum disease, or periodontal disease, is a dangerous condition. Gingivitis first affects the gums and tissues that support teeth. It causes red, swollen, bleeding gums. Eventually, it progresses to periodontitis.

Overcrowded or misaligned teeth are hard to clean. They trap plaque, which causes gum disease. Orthodontic treatment can help. Well-aligned teeth improve brushing and flossing.

This place is amazing! Dr. Thai and staff is the best!
